Kennedy Buckman Joins the MN Waves as a Head Coach for the 2020-2021 Season

Kennedy established herself as one of the best softball players in the Minnesota prep circuit. During her high school career with the New Prague Trojans, Buckman was a five-time letter winner, two-time All Conference, three-time All Section, an All-American, first-team All-State, and All-Selection pick. In her Junior year, Buckman was named the unanimous team MVP while hitting an outstanding .578 from the dish. The power-hitting infielder collected six home runs while finishing the year with a .953 slugging percentage. In addition to her high school career, Kennedy played 5 years of club softball and was named the tournament MVP in the USSSA National Championships in Kansas City. Buckman is continuing her softball career at Augustana University with a major in education and a minor in science.

Kennedy has spent the last several years coaching with the New Prague Girls Fastpitch Association along with volunteer coaching with the MN Waves ’06 14U team in 2020. She believes that coaching is a calling and a unique opportunity to change lives. Her passion as a player and a leader drives her to give back to the game.

Kennedy will be joined by Assistant Coach, Jenna Beckstrom, who is a Lakeville North standout and Minnesota Gopher commit. Beckstrom is a three-time All-Conference honoree and earned 2019 First-Team All-State honors. She has been a captain since her sophomore season and led her team to a sectional championship and a 2018 state tournament appearance. She was also a 2020 Breakdown Sports Miss Minnesota Softball finalist and was selected to the PGF All-American Team Regional Watch List. Jenna is a natural leader and mentor with a passion for teaching the game. Her discipline and work ethic help her to excel in every area of her life.

We are excited to have them both joining the Waves for the 2020-2021 season!
